Okay, so, I lied.. No Humpdates today.. I am literally frantically packing a bag and cleaning the house in preparation for a little road trip this weekend to Jason’s hometown of Ruston, Louisiana, and blogging time just went from minimal to nonexistent. However, I will leave you some clues as to what happened last week, courtesy of Google Image Search. Muahahaha!

More info when I return, I promise!!!  While I’m gone, check out some of my photos featured on the Elizabeth Anne Designs blog!  Day After sessions are the BEST EVER, my favorite things in the whole wide world, and I totally play favorites with my clients who do them ;)  Just kidding!!  Mostly….

Okay, so I KNOW that I am behind with the Humpdates… But I have a good reason.  This week has been enormously busy, but unfortunately most of the things keeping me busy are SECRET so I have to keep my lips sealed for a little bit.  However, tomorrow I am doing something very cool so expect a belated Humpdates with a minor but awesome announcement, and some pretty photos to go along with it.

Today I booked two weddings (including one all-pink extravaganza! *swoon*), which brought me up to nearly 2/3 of my total for next year.  I only have 1 opening left for the first half of 09, and I am fully expecting to be booked for 2009 before January 1 even arrives.  That is crazy, and wonderful, and I think my heart may explode with happiness and excitement for the year to come.  I am truly, madly, deeply in love with all of my clients, I have been so phenomenally blessed to work with the most beautiful, kind, funny, interesting, intelligent, and all-around awesome brides and grooms in the entire world.  I can say with 100% honesty that I am psyched about every single one of my clients, and there are too few photographers out there who have that luxury.  How did I get this lucky?  Seriously?

Right now I am off for dinner and a movie with my mom.  Our favorite pastime is going to see silly girl movies and getting WAY too much movie food.  I may have to waddle home, but it will be totally worth it.  Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, here we come!

Check out this page on college news website Palestra.net and make sure you go to the list on the right side of the page and click #6, Missouri. Do any of those band members look familar? Here’s a hint…

It’s former Juliana Theory member, current Confident Years drummer, and my most rockstar groom ever, Neil Hebrank (and two of his groomsmen)! Woohoo, congrats Neil!

Never have I put my clients’ lives in danger more than I did during this session. Despite facing peril at every turn, Stacy and John handled it like complete pros! And that is only one of the reasons I think these two are the bee’s knees. Stacy doesn’t know this, but I have admired her from afar for quite awhile now. She is super stylish, uniquely beautiful, and one of the sweetest, kindest girls you’ll ever meet. I have been so lucky to have some of the coolest brides ever, and Stacy is certainly one of the coolest of the cool. Although I don’t know John quite as well, I know that if Stacy loves him, he must be equally as incredible, because no one but a total stud could win her heart!

The risk-taking begins in Soho, where yours truly wandered around Canal St. for a good half an hour because she didn’t take the time to write down the hotel address before she left. Whoops! I meandered aimlessly, clutching my camera bag to my chest, darting inside McDonalds every time I saw a sketchy character, but luckily Stacy and John found me, and we snuck into the Soho Grand Hotel for a few very-against-the-rules photos.

Then, I decided that breaking into an old courtyard surrounded by locked fences and big semi trucks was a good idea. Next we decided to brave the streets of Soho again, stopping wherever we felt inspired (and that was quite often!). There may or may not have been some pigeon corralling involved…. I plead the 5th. destination engagement session of Stacy Bilnoski and John Matthew McEnaney in Soho Grand Hotel, Times Square, Central Park, New York City by Dallas wedding photographer Stacy Reeves

Stacy and John, thank you so much for putting your lives on the line for me and allowing me to hang out with you in the Big Apple! You guys are troopers, not to mention super hot models, and I can’t wait for April!

Announcement time!

I have had a few people mention to me that the images in their proofing galleries are somewhat small and very low-resolution. Well, I do that intentionally for a number of reasons, the primary reason being that when you’re looking at 500+ images from a wedding, you don’t want to wait an hour for the images to load on the website. The images in my proofing galleries load very quickly, allowing you and your wedding guests to browse all of your photos quickly and efficiently.

However, I recognize that some people prefer to see the photos in their big, full-resolution glory (I know I would!), so I’ve come up with an option that solves that problem. I now offer a proofing DVD that will work on any DVD player or computer with a DVD drive. The DVD contains awesome proofing software that will let you see all your images almost full-screen and at full resolution in color, black and white, and sepia, as well as the image filename for easy ordering.

Once the fourth quarter of this year arrives and my prices go up again, I will include the proofing DVD in every package. However, for those of you who have already booked with me or who have already had your wedding shot by me, you can add this on to your package for only $100 (additional copies $35). The DVD will include proofing galleries for your wedding, as well as any portrait sessions you may have booked (engagements, bridals, day after, etc.) and your rehearsal dinner, if applicable. If you want a proofing DVD of your portrait session only, you can get one for $50 (additional copies $35).

Just to clarify, these DVDs do not contain the actual image files themselves.  They are not the same thing as a DVD slideshow, nor are they the same thing as the digital negatives.  These DVDs are for proofing purposes only.  If you have any questions, let me know!

….was a very very very good week. :)

I came home from a weekend in Houston to find these waiting for me (I LOOOOOOOOOVE fresh flowers):

And this in the mailbox (I love clients who use their photographs in unique ways - in this case, brilliant and beautiful thank you notes):

I ordered a jar of this (nom!):

And then Jason and I spent the weekend turning our drab puke-green bedroom with no light and mismatched furniture into THIS:

And then I followed a guide I found in my beloved Real Simple book to create a pretty bulletin board for the closet, with all the little things I might need for a clothing emergency:

Oh, AND I turned our dirty comforter that was too big to fit in any washing machine known to man into a DUVET COVER that we can slip off and wash any time we want that fresh laundry smell.  Woohoo!

All in all, a very productive weekend. We have been meaning to redo our bedroom for awhile now, but since I have been working every weekend since May, we didn’t really have a chance until now. I can’t tell you how much I love our bedroom now. I pretty much never want to leave it! It makes me happy just to stand back and look at it :) Obviously we still need to get art up on the wall (a big canvas over the bed, an arrangement of black and white images in black frames on the window wall, and possibly something above the TV) but it’s a vast improvement.

This weekend I am off to tiny Toccoa, Georgia to photograph a wedding I have been excited about for a loooooooooong time.  The bride and groom are crazy cool and I can’t wait to share more details about them when I return!

Does it count as a destination portrait session if the couple lives there, but I don’t?

Although Andy and Natalie are Texans, born and bred, they currently live up in the Big Apple. I cannot wait to photograph their Dallas wedding late next year, but in the meantime, it was great to be able to meet them in their neck of the woods for a fun “destination” engagement session. Although I never met these guys before our first consultation, it feels as though I have known them my entire life. They both have this way of making virtual strangers feel like best friends, and I consider myself extremely lucky to be their wedding photographer. It doesn’t hurt that they are both unfairly good-looking, as well. Oh, and little miss Natalie is a brand new NY Jets Flight Crew member! If you live up in New York, stop by a Jets game and give the gorgeous blonde dancer an extra loud cheer for me!

Here are a few images from their New York City session:

We started off in the good old NYC staple, Central Park.  I am a huge fan of shooting engagement sessions in parks.  The backgrounds are always beautiful, the light is always great, and the simplicity of it allows me to focus on the couple, rather than the location.  And, of course, Central Park is THE park of parks, so I could shoot there all day and be perfectly happy.  :)

Next we headed to the Lower East Side to take a stroll around Andy and Natalie’s former neighborhood.  I learned quite a few interesting things on Avenue C that day (Aware, Beware, Caution, Danger - haha!).  It was great to be able to shoot around the places that Andy and Natalie spent their free time.  Now, even when they move back to Dallas (*fingers crossed*), they can remember the time they spent up in NYC.

Dear Nikole and Chris’ parents,

If seeing steamy, sexy, awesomely hot photos of your two little darlings makes you uncomfortable… You should probably stop reading right now! I tried to keep it G-rated, but.. well.. newlyweds will be newlyweds!

XOXO,
Stacy

Day After sessions are, hands down, my favorite thing in the entire world. No contest. One of main reasons I am a photographer is because I love making people feel beautiful and capturing that beauty in images, and I feel that everyone is at their most beautiful when they are dressed up all fancy-like with the person they love most in the world, which is exactly what happens in a Day After session. It also gives people a chance to be totally narcissistic and fill the walls of their home with amazing portraits of themselves, which I of course fully support.

As I mentioned before, I absolutely adore Nikole and Chris for many reasons, but I especially love them for taking some time out of their honeymoon to wander around Puerta Plata with me and roll around in the sand and water. Check out some of my favorites:

Nikole and Chris, thank you first of all for being so easy on the eyes, making my job ridiculously easy, and thank you for being so great to me and allowing me to have a blast with you both during your wedding and honeymoon. I’m just sad that you’re so far away now :( I guess I will just have to make the trek up north to come visit!

Random side note: I am seeing a lot of hits to this post via the NAPP forums, and a friend on those boards informed me that a lot of you all are discussing this post in regards to use of actions and plug-ins.  I want you guys to know that virtually every image in this post, aside from the B&W/Sepia images, is pretty much SOOC, with minimal tweaking in Lightroom. In fact, only one action was used, and that is Totally Rad Action’s Old Skool, used on the last pair of images in this post. In the past I have been a big fan of actions, but these days I am leaning more towards the school of leaving images mostly as-is, and letting their beauty speak for itself. In the future, if you have comments or thoughts about my images, I would love to hear them in the comments section of this blog. Thanks! It’s always great to know that my work is inspiring discussion :)

Is anyone else obsessed with the Olympics right now? I swore I was going to boycott them because I am really not fond of the Chinese government, but I can’t help myself. The opening ceremonies were the best ever, and there are so many great stories of athletes who have worked so hard to get where they are. I pretty much haven’t watched anything else since they started. Jason even rigged up a TV tuner so I can watch them on my computer in the office while I work! Thank goodness that I have the Olympics to distract me from all my favorite shows being over (Last Comic Standing, So You Think You Can Dance, Design Star, and Project Runway, which might as well be over because all of the designers this year are terrible!).

Since this past week was fairly chill with not much to report, today I want to focus on sending you all some links that I want to share. There are a few blogs that I check on an almost daily basis, and I think they may be helpful to a lot of you engaged girls out there.

Southern Weddings Magazine Blog is the single greatest source of inspiration I can think of for weddings. They are the cream of the crop, because they pull their inspiration from some of the best vendors in the industry. Their daily inspiration boards are pretty much guaranteed to make you go “I want to do that!” This morning they posted a wedding idea board (pictured below) inspired by one of my favorite things - cameos. I think every unmarried girl is secretly planning her wedding in her head (whether she has a boyfriend or not), and my fictional wedding is pretty much pulled straight out of this blog. Highly recommended!

Real Simple’s Nearly Wed Blog comes from one of my favorite magazines, Real Simple. I love the clean line and elegant simplicity of everything they do. Not to mention how much time and money they can save you! Sometimes they can be a little off (for example, all of those companies they recommend for wedding albums are very low-end, and will not last very long if you plan on putting them out on display!), but for the most part they have very cool DIY suggestions. I really love these cute cupcake holders!

Wonderful Graffiti is not technically a blog, but I still go back to look at it practically every day. They sell custom-made wall art with your monogram, name, favorite quote, business logo, etc. You can purchase one of their pre-made items, or create something completely new. I am in love with those lucite letters (below)! They have some really fun wedding decor sets than can make personalizing your wedding easy and relatively cheap. They’re also great for home decor, as well. I am very strongly considering getting a huge decal of the “Desiderata” poem to put in our house.

Elizabeth Anne Designs comes from two girls with great design taste who always have really cute inspirations. I am so in love with the aqua and red color scheme (probably my favorite color combination ever) they posted today. Lovely!

Etsy.com has been mentioned here before, but it seems unfair to do a blog post about websites I love and not include it. Etsy has homemade crafts from all around the world, ranging from jewelry to clothing to purses to veils. There are also a lot of talented graphic designers who can create some stunning save-the-dates and invitations for you! I spend way too much money on this website, and is definitely another huge resource for my fictional wedding in my head. Last week I bought two adorable camera straps. If you want to see them, you’ll just have to hire me :) Here’s a cute bird’s nest ring pillow that would be great for an outdoor southern wedding.

Wholly Matrimony was once defunct, but has recently been picked up again and is well on its way to become a major resource for brides. Their specialty is destination weddings, but they have advice for all brides regardless of wedding location. Recently one of my brides wrote a very smart and accurate article on how to get the best photographs out of your wedding day, featuring some of my work, which is very cool.

Also, yours truly has been popping up all over the web in the past weeks. I want to say thank you to all the people out there who have mentioned my name and spread the good word about me. MAJOR thanks to: Deanna Hall, White Wedding Bells, DarbiG, Elizabeth Anne, Pure Bliss, Everyday Beautiful (Lacy), Living Life with a Passion (Jules), L Squared Photography, Maddie Dean, Vashti Wood, Boronis, Heather Garland, Three Heart (whose work and blog I am a new huge fan of), and hennessy|g. I know there are more of you out there, and I’m so sorry if I forgot anyone! If you link to me, let me know so I can give you a big public thank you :)

How do I love Nikole and Chris… Let me count the ways!

First of all, they are Canadian, and I am more than slightly obsessed with all things Canadian. It started when I was younger and took a few trips up north with my mom. All I can remember is that the country was beautiful, the people were nice, the weather was good, and I had a blast. Fast forward to about two years ago, when I moved into my former condo and had what seemed like 600 TV channels, including one that focused solely on Canadian TV shows. I fell in love with the Canadian accent and sense of humor, and I have been a canuck-lover ever since. I only wish I could go visit again (hint, hint Canadian brides!!).

Furthermore, Nikole is a photography enthusiast, and you know what I always say - photographers throw the BEST weddings. Chris and Nikole’s wedding was no disappointment there. Everything from the wedding party attire to the decor to the location was super photogenic, and I was in heaven capturing all the cool details.

It also didn’t hurt that Nikole and Chris’ wedding also served as a much-needed vacation for Jason and I. Every year I pick one destination wedding and make that my vacation for the year, and I stay for an extra 4-6 days to relax and have fun. I am extremely lucky to have a boyfriend who is also a talented photographer in his own right, so he can serve as my second shooter as well as my traveling companion.

This was the first time I have ever shown up to shoot a wedding without ever having met the bride and groom in person beforehand, so I was a little unsure of what to expect, but luckily I had no reason to fear. Nikole and Chris are warm, friendly people who went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and having as much fun as they were. It was very clear that their top priority on their wedding day was to make sure everyone had a great time, and that’s definitely what happened!

I am in love with ALL of the photos I took that day, but here are a few that I think really tell the story:

The current Mrs. Bordato and the soon-to-be-other Mrs. Bordato getting primped and prepped at the spa… I don’t think Chris’ mom was super happy with how her hair was progressing.

Nikole added these cool brooches to each of the bridesmaid’s bouquets. I thought that was a really cool gift to her girls, not to mention a fantastic decor detail.
