Happy Birthday to me!

,It’s midnight, which means I am officially 25 years old - WAHOO!! Thanks Mom for making this possible :) But Santa, you and I are still not on speaking terms.

My birthday is the one day of the year I can guilt trip people into doing things for me, so today, I would like to ask you that if I have done anything positive in your life, if I have helped you out in any way, please return the favor by helping me out and checking out some of my favorite charities. If you’re able, send them a little financial loving, because nothing makes me happier than doing some good in the world!

-Kiva.org - small microloans ($25ish) that can completely transform the life of an entrepreneur in need

-Thirst Relief - bringing my absolute favorite beverage (water!) to people who don’t have any

-ASPCA - looking out for our furry friends in distress who can’t stand up for themselves

If you don’t have any money to spare, do me a big birthday favor and head over to Free Rice and fill out the vocab quiz 25 times, one for each year I’ve spent on this beautiful planet. Not only will you improve your vocabulary (which I love, as a former English major), but you’ll help feed hungry people worldwide!

Thanks guys! :)

Update: Holy cow, I just realized Free Rice has a TON of subjects, and multiple levels for each one. I am doing Level 5 English Grammar right now. This is TOTALLY my idea of fun!

Open Lunch tomorrow!

Just wanted to let you all know that I am hosting a lunch tomorrow for all the Dallas photogs and a few other friends of mine. We’ll be meeting at Jason’s Deli in Frisco (at 121 and Preston, in front of Stonebriar Mall) at 1 PM and hanging out ’til question marks. Feel free to come join, even if we’ve never met before, I’d love to meet you and talk shop!  :)

Please RSVP in the comments so I know how many to expect!

Vote for Natalie!

I hate using my blog to send traffic elsewhere, but my client is being nominated as a NFL Pro Bowl cheerleader and I am SO excited for her!!!  However, she needs your help - please please please go to http://www.newyorkjets.com/fan_zone/flight_crew and vote for NATALIE as the NY Jets Pro Bowl cheerleader.  Not only is Natalie gorgeous on the outside, she is also such a kind, caring person who dedicates a lot of her time to helping young girls and being a great role model.  She is truly an amazing woman, not to mention a TEXAN (and you know how we love those). You can vote as many times as you want through December 16, so feel free to reload the page and vote over and over and over and over AND OVER again :)  Yay Natalie!

Susan and Adam are urban!

I am out of town in Houston this week, but I wanted to get their session up that I have been anxious to share. Susan and Adam had an incredible wedding a few weeks back thanks to their amazing planner Kathie Seeley, but I will have plenty of details on that soon. In the meantime, here are some shots from the Deep Ellum engagement session.

This one was just a lucky twist of fate.. We saw a cool mural, and it just so happened to have the first two letters of each of their name right next to each other.. Talk about a coincidence!

Thoughts on the new President

I know there are a lot of happy people and a lot of disappointed people out there.. I am a bit of both, myself. I started the campaign season supporting Obama, then switched to McCain as I studied the issues and each candidate’s background more. Although I did cast my vote for John McCain, I would be lying if I said I was upset to see Obama elected. He’s a good man, a very inspiring leader, and obviously a very historic candidate. I am glad that we have finally broken this barrier - now we just need to get a female in that office! ;) (Just kidding - Issues people, not demographics!!)

I shot some photos at an Obama rally for a local paper a few months back, and I absolutely love them, so at the very least I am glad to have an excuse to post them again. Congrats to Obama, I wish him the best of luck in the next four years and I hope - for all our sakes - his term is peaceful and prosperous!

In related news, can I get an AMEN from all the people who are glad to see this election come to an end?? I feel like this race has really brought out the nasty side of many people, and it has been very disheartening to see.  I am glad that now that a choice has been made, we can all move on and be friends again :)  Although I did enjoy my free election donut.. Yumm…

A little preview…

…of what I did today!

Photos from Nikole and Chris\' Destination Wedding at the Sun Village Resort in Puerto Plata, the Dominican Republic

Just a teensy little preview to show you what I have been up to. I can’t wait to show off the rest of the images! But for now.. I am off to have a Banana Mama and go for a swim! :)

ps :: that image is literally straight out of the camera.  Ridiculous!!

News from Nebraska!

Hello from Omaha!  This place is swarming with baseball fans from all over the country for the College World Series, but the REAL big event was Darbi & Neil’s wedding last night!  It was so beautiful, I had so much fun with them and I have a ton of stories to share, but that will have to wait a bit until I get the many, many photos edited!

I did want to share something with you all though.. At yesterday’s wedding, the shutter on my camera died, the autofocus on my most-used lens died, a flash went on the fritz, and we had a memory card go bad on us.

I am happy to report that none of these things interrupted the wedding day coverage AT ALL!  Whew!  We didn’t miss a beat, and we have a wealth of fantastic, beautiful images from throughout the day.  The reason for this is that we came prepared with backup cameras, many many lenses, backup flashes, and TONS of memory cards.  If we had not had backups in virtually every aspect of equipment, yesterday would have been a very tragic disaster, as there would have been parts of Darbi and Neil’s wedding we would not have been able to cover.

If you are a photographer, and you do not have backups for EVERYTHING (and possibly even backups for your backups), you should not be shooting weddings.  If you are a bride, you need to be absolutely 100% sure that your photographer has at least one backup camera, several lenses, a backup flash, extra batteries, and more memory cards than they could ever possibly use.  If your photographer is not equipped with this, you might want to rethink signing a contract with them.

In the future I’m going to post a lot of “Tips for Brides” and “Tips for Photographers” but no tip I can give will ever be more important than this.  Hopefully it will be of use to some of you!

Now I am off to shoot Darbi & Neil’s Day After session.  They are both pretty smokin’ hot, so that will make my job super easy!  I’ll be back in the Big D on Tuesday!
