Lauren and Jeff’s Colorful Ranch Wedding

I’m so excited to finally share Lauren and Jeff’s OW Ranch wedding, now that it has been featured on Style Me Pretty! There’s something so special about an outdoor ranch wedding. Being surrounded by the beauty of nature in a rustic setting that almost forces you to relax creates a lovely, laid back atmosphere that can’t go wrong. One thing I particularly loved about Lauren and Jeff’s wedding was all of the color! When I walked into the reception and saw every color of the rainbow, I absolutely fell in love. Debby Jewesson of Branching Out really outdid herself with this one. There were so many creative containers, such as plaster urns, wooden boxes, vintage tins, and mason jars, filled with every kind of flower and unique touches like moss, acorns, ferns, and quartz crystal. Everywhere you turned there was a new and interesting centerpiece. I must have taken a million photos trying to catalog all of the beautiful touches! Lauren told me that she when she decided to have no specific wedding colors, she got a lot of strange looks and had a lot of people try to talk her out of it, but I am so glad she held her ground! Entertainment was provided by Maximum Acoustic, the delicious Mexican food at the reception came courtesy of Wind Hill Catering, and the wedding cakes were created by Granbury Cakes. The bride wore a Marisa gown from Patsy’s Bridal Boutique in Highland Park, and the bridesmaid’s stunning dress was created by a family friend. Here are some of my favorites from their wedding:

Kristy & Brian’s Classic Dallas Wedding

One of my favorite moments from Kristy and Brian’s wedding was walking in the door to her hotel room at the Adolphus Hotel and being introduced to her super friendly bridesmaids, some of whom admitted that they follow my blog, so I know they will be especially happy to see these images! Kristy is one of those rare, magnificent beauties that you seldom come across, and when you do, you can’t help but just stare. Every move she makes is so full of elegance and grace, and it is literally impossible to catch a bad angle of her. Her kind, quiet spirit is a perfect match for Brian, who is as likable a guy as you will ever find. I know Brian knows how lucky he is to have her, and I also know she feels equally lucky to have found such a wonderful man who adores her so much. Spending time with Kristy and Brian and being a part of their wedding was a real honor, and I’m thrilled to share the images with all of you! The ceremony was held at First United Methodist Church of Dallas and the reception took place at the Adolphus Hotel. The delicious cake was made by Panini Bakery, the flowers were created by Kabloom of Dallas, and Special Edition kept the party going all night long, as always.

Annie & Chris’ New Orleans French Quarter Wedding

I love New Orleans. I mean, I don’t just love it, I looooooove it. Not a week goes by that Jason and I don’t talk about when our next trip will be, and every time we do go down to the Big Easy, we come back making plans to pack up and move down there. Don’t get me wrong, I am a Texas girl born and bred, I love my Dallas roots, but there’s something so magical about New Orleans. The music is the best in the world, the food is to die for, the architecture is beautiful, and there’s always something fun and exciting to do. It’s also a photographer’s dream city – everywhere you look is a photo op, and it’s virtually impossible to run out of stunning backdrops for portraits and weddings and environmental shots. Any chance I get to take photos in New Orleans, I absolutely jump on, so I was beyond thrilled when Annie and Chris invited me to photograph their NOLA wedding earlier this year. Annie took me under her wing and taught me some very valuable Big Easy staples – the to-go cup, the St. Charles street car, Magazine Street, the glorious Muriel’s Restaurant, and my absolute favorite wedding tradition of all time – the Second Line. I loved it so much, I decided to do it at my own wedding! I will forever be grateful to Annie and Chris for showing me a side to the Crescent City that I never knew existed. Jessica & Charlie’s Villa Antonia Austin Wedding

Generally when you see a couple this attractive, you just assume they must have some major flaw, some chink in their perfect armor. Maybe they’re snobby, or not very nice, or not very smart, or not very interesting. This couldn’t be further from the truth with Jessica and Charlie. To an outsider, they seem to have it all together. They are warm, nice, loving people who come from two joyful families that seemed to be thrilled to see them married, they have awesome, supportive friends who partied the whole night long, and of course they’ve got that whole Aggie thing going for them, too! I kept catching myself grinning at this wedding, unable to resist the contagious joy from all the fun and super-nice people I was surrounded by. This is the kind of wedding I live to shoot – two genuinely good people surrounded by loving family and friends, celebrating their love without a care in the world. Julie & Colin’s Odessa Wedding

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Julie & Colin’s wedding in Odessa. I’d never been to the Midland-Odessa area, which is famous for football (the book, movie, and TV show Friday Night Lights are all based on Odessa high school football) oil, and being the hometown of former President George W. Bush. All in all, Odessa is the epitome of the archetypical west Texas town, and even though as a Texas native myself I know better than to believe all the silly stereotypes, I have to admit that as Jena and I drove past the miles and miles of flat country land surrounded by windmills, oil rigs, and deserted buildings, I began to wonder what kind of wedding I was going to experience. Luckily, Midland-Odessa’s oil heritage ensures that there is definitely a culture of class and sophistication in these small towns, and Julie and Colin’s wedding was as sophisticated and beautiful as any you might find here in the “big city” of Dallas. Alexis & Charlie’s Fort Worth Wedding

Alexis and Charlie’s wedding was one of those good old fashioned Southern weddings that just makes you feel right at home. Friendly people, a beautiful church, a couple that’s madly in love, good food (BBQ, if I remember correctly), cold beers, a Texas country band, dancing late into the night, and a classic, relaxed elegance that you see so often in Southern brides. Oh, and a little Aggie War Hymn, naturally. There’s nothing pretentious or stuck-up about Alexis and Charlie – they are two of the warmest, friendliest people you’ll ever meet and their wedding reflected that sense of open arms and joyfulness. I had such a blast photographing their wedding in downtown Fort Worth! Here are some of my favorite wedding photographs from their day:

Ali & Rob’s Miami Wedding

Normally I live in a bubble of good-old-boy Southern weddings, my weekends filled with churches and ballrooms, sweet brides in big poofy white dresses surrounded by fluffy flowers like peonies, garden roses, and hydrangeas. The fact that I pretty much just described my own wedding should be proof that those types of weddings are anything but boring to me, and I love the classic elegance of a traditional Southern wedding. However, every now and then I get the chance to do something completely out of my comfort zone, and I relish those opportunities. Ali & Rob’s wedding was one such occasion. This wedding was Miami through and through – from the delicious Cuban rehearsal dinner (I am now completely obsessed with Cuban food, thanks entirely to Ali and Rob) to the beach ceremony to Ali’s short sassy wedding dress to the bright oranges and greens of their wedding decor. Their family and friends were so welcoming to us, and thew showed us the same Southern hospitality we know and love, Miami style. Here are some of my favorites from their day:

Love this… Ali took some of Rob’s old BDUs and had makeup bags made out of them for her bridesmaids!

This was one of the scariest and funniest moments I’ve ever seen.. The zipper on Ali’s wedding dress broke, and for a moment we were all afraid she wouldn’t be able to get in the dress. Then her father (the doctor) saved the day by bringing out his forceps to get the zipper up!

One of the coolest moments of the wedding, for me, was when Ali & Rob had their friends circle around them with lit sparklers for their first dance. It was like something out of a movie, and it made for gorgeous light for their photos!

Lindsay & Jim’s Austin Wedding

Jim is kind of a big deal – to me, at least. In college, Jim served as Student Body President my senior year. To some of you, being the “SBP” might be meaningless, and at some smaller schools it might indeed be just a figurehead position, but at one of the nation’s largest universities and Texas’ oldest public college, it’s a huge responsibility. Jim traveled the world representing Texas A&M, hosted visiting presidents and other dignitaries from various countries, worked on a regular basis with Robert Gates (how would you like to have a letter of recommendation from the US Secretary of Defense?), and had an impact in how millions of dollars were spent on behalf of the students of Texas A&M University. Despite the fact that I campaigned against him, Jim took a chance on me and asked me to serve on his Executive Council, which was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. The team Jim assembled was full of some of the smartest, most talented, most accomplished people at A&M, and to this day I stand in awe of what everyone has gone on to achieve. Serving under Jim’s leadership and working with the team he put together encouraged me to dream big, to never settle for mediocrity, and to work hard to have a positive impact on whatever I was a part of. Jim is a fabulous leader, and I really feel like a better person for having known him.

Over the years, Jim’s friends all mused about who he would eventually end up with. We knew she would have to be incredibly smart, outgoing, kind and friendly to all people, able to adapt to both Jim’s goofy fun-loving personality as well as his serious drive for success, successful and driven in her own right, and generally an all-out rockstar. We set the bar pretty high for Jim, knowing that he wouldn’t settle for anything less than amazing, and I’m happy to say he found it in Lindsay. I knew the moment I met her that she was great for Jim. They seem to make each other blissfully happy, and they’re all smiles when they’re around each other. Working this wedding was emotional for me, seeing a good friend find such happiness. Here are some of my favorites from their wedding day!

Jacqueline & Danny’s Highland Park Elopement

People are always asking me what’s my favorite thing to shoot, and earlier in my career, I probably would have said that Bridal portraits were tops in my book. There’s something so rewarding about taking photos of a woman who looks and feels so beautiful, and showing off that inner glow that brides have when they slip on their dress. It’s a magical thing, for me, and I could shoot a thousand bridal sessions and never get sick of them.

However, lately I have been booking and shooting quite a lot of elopements. I know from current experience that planning a wedding can be overwhelming, stressful, and expensive, and the lure of abandoning all the planning in favor of a simple, intimate elopement ceremony in a beautiful location is definitely appealing. That’s exactly what Jacqueline and Danny had in mind when they called me up asking if I would be willing to come with them to a small local park where they used to walk their dogs early on in their relationship to make their love official, and I jumped at the chance. Jacqueline has an amazing aesthetic and sense of style, so of course her wedding details were ethereal and lovely. I’m thrilled to share them on my website, now that Style Me Pretty has featured them! Here are some of my favorite elopement photographs from their beautiful day:

Jacqueline and Danny chose to do a handfasting ritual at their wedding. It was the first time I’d ever seen a handfasting at a wedding, and I loved it! They used three ribbons – two to represent each of them, and a third to represent their marriage together, with bells on the end. Supposedly every time the bells ring, it should make them think of their love and their wedding day. I love this unique Irish tradition and I’m thinking about incorporating it into my own wedding!

After the wedding we did an impromptu portrait session at Lakeside, in Highland Park.

I love that Jacqueline and Danny incorporated their dogs, who are such an important part of their relationship. So many people are hesitant to bring their dogs along for photos because they’re not sure how I’ll react, but let me tell you now, I love it! If your pets are so close to you they’re practically like children, like mine are to me, there’s no reason not to use your opportunity with a professional photographer to get some great “family” photos!

Yasmin & Ahmad’s Ritz Carlton Wedding

Every now and then, there’s a wedding where you walk into the room and your jaw literally drops.. Yasmin and Ahmad’s wedding was one of those occasions. It was so entertaining to watch the guests walk into the ballroom at the Ritz Carlton, and see their faces just fill with wonder and amazement at what DFW Events, Garden Gate Floral, Beyond Lighting, and Prashe Decor had created. Yasmin and Ahmad put together one of the most talented teams of wedding vendors I’ve ever seen, and as the photos clearly show, when you hire the best you get the best! Yasmin and Ahmad had a traditional Muslim wedding where the men and women were separated so that the women could remove their veils, and so to honor their privacy, I can’t post any photos of the wedding festivities. However, with their permission, I couldn’t resist showing off their incredible details! Thanks to Celina Gomez who helped out as an additional photographer for this wedding.

Mary-Frances Hurt of DFW Events helping Yasmin prepare for the ceremony!

Beyond Lighting and Design outdid themselves with the gorgeous pink color wash in the room, the custom gobos on the walls and floor, and the pin spots on the centerpieces. It’s amazing how professional lighting can completely transform a ballroom into something magical!

Junior of Garden Gate Floral is truly a master at his craft. The stunning creations he puts together always take my breath away. That is one of many reasons why he’ll be the florist at my own wedding, as well!
