Rachel and Justin’s Colorado engagement session

Destination, Engagements
January 23rd, 2012

It did not take much convincing from Rachel and Justin to get me to leave the triple-digit scorching Texas summer heat and join them at their family’s vacation home in Crested Butte, Colorado.  It was the first week in August, and while my friends and family in Dallas were sitting lazily by their air conditioning units and daydreaming of Antarctica, Rachel and Justin and I were walking down Crested Butte’s main street, going in and out of antique stores and coffee shops and restaurants, enjoying the sun and blue sky and, most importantly, the 60 degree weather.  We ate delicious food, took midday naps, read books on cool sunny patios, and somewhere in there we found time to shoot Rachel and Justin’s engagement session.  I am so looking forward to their March wedding which is sure to be fabulous, especially with the amazing Paige Chenault as their wedding coordinator!  Here are some of my favorites:

Caroline and Aaron’s Newlywed Day After Session

Day After
November 29th, 2011

Fellow photographers are always some of my favorite clients to work with. They understand the importance of trusting the photographer they hired and their vision and artistic style, but they also bring their own experience and creativity to their shoot. Lately I’ve been working with other wedding photographers a lot, which is both humbling and exciting. Once of my favorites has been Caroline Joy, an incredibly talented photographer formerly of Dallas, now located in Austin Texas. I have always adored her work, so I was literally jumping up and down with joy when she first inquired with me!  When I first met her, I thought to myself, this is the closest anyone can possibly get to a real life Disney princess.  She is petite, beautiful, has flawless skin and perfect hair, is always happy and laughing, always supporting everyone around her, and generally just a wonderful person inside and out.

Unfortunately, the stars did not align for me to photograph their wedding, but we did the next best thing and headed to Keller City Hall Park to do an engagement and Day After session. Considering Caroline’s gorgeous photos, I wasn’t the least bit surprised that discover that she and Aaron have impeccable style. I especially loved her bright red lipstick and the vintage bridal hairpiece she wore with her wedding gown, as well as their brand new adopted whippet Steve Z (who is already so in love with them, he whined whenever they weren’t within arm’s reach), and most of all their amazing creme Stella scooter that they bought for their wedding day. In fact, I was so obsessed with it that I immediately put it as the #1 item on my Christmas list! Maybe Santa will be kind to me this year, so I can look as cool as Caroline and Aaron! Here are some of my favorites from their day.

Erin & Tyler’s forest engagement session

Engagements
September 15th, 2011

Every now and then I drive by a particular spot, and I think to myself, “What a perfect place for a photoshoot.” I add it to the mental catalog, and nine times out of ten, I completely forget about it and move on. However, there is one tiny little forest just off 75 in McKinney that I have been eying for years, just waiting for the right couple to take there, and with Erin and Tyler, I finally got my chance. Erin and Tyler are quite possibly the most laid-back bride and groom in the history of weddings. At their engagement session – which happened about a week before we left for Ireland for their wedding – Erin sprang the news on me that she had not yet purchased a wedding dress, and didn’t really even have any plans where to start. This is the kind of thing that most brides have nightmares about (I had that particular nightmare no less than ten times myself), but Erin just smiled, shrugged her shoulders, and said “It’ll work out.”  With that kind of positive attitude, I knew that she and Tyler would be the perfect opportunity for me to suggest that we just pull off the highway and shoot their engagement session in a random patch of woods. True to form, Erin and Tyler jumped right in, and it turned out to be one of my favorite engagement sessions this year. I can’t wait to show you their incredible Irish wedding, but for now, here are a few of my favorites from their engagement session:

Shannon & Will’s Highland Park Engagements

Engagements
August 19th, 2011

Oh boy, has it been difficult to keep this one under wraps!  I’ve been holding onto this engagement session for quite some time, and now that it has made its debut on Style Me Pretty, I’m thrilled to be able to publish it here on my blog!  This was hands down one of my favorite engagement sessions to shoot, not only because Shannon and Will are two fun, outgoing, beautiful people (which makes them extremely easy to photograph) but also because they really injected some of themselves into their session.  Shannon made it clear to me that getting a nice, posed, formal newspaper shot was a secondary concern to her – she was far more interested in capturing their personalities and the spirit of their relationship with each other.  To help make that happen, we took some of their favorite things – books they love to read together, their beloved beach cruisers, a picnic blanket and a bottle of wine – and we headed to a park right beside their home that they often spent time at.  I basically told them to just goof off, love on each other, and be themselves, and they were happy to oblige.  Here are some of my favorites from their session:

CheyAnne and Doug’s New Orleans Engagements

Destination, Engagements
April 15th, 2011

It’s always an interesting experience when another photographer hires me to take their photos. It’s even more interesting when TWO photographers hire me to take their photos together! CheyAnne and Doug are two very talented photographers, and they just so happen to be getting married next year in their current hometown of New Orleans, LA – which also happens to be one of my favorite places in the world! I’ve been so lucky to get to visit NOLA several times this year, and every time I fall more and more in love with it. CheyAnne and Doug really wanted to capture the feel of the city, so we started off in the heart of the French Quarter, Jackson Square, and wandered around the city. Here are some of my favorites:

Jessica and Rawley’s Rustic Ranch Engagement Session

Engagements
March 30th, 2011

Despite being born and raised in the “big city” of Dallas, I’ll always be a bit of a country girl at heart. Lately I’ve been shooting a lot in some more rural areas, and I have fallen in love with it. I love the huge, rolling fields and patches of trees and winding dirt roads and all of the beautiful animals and livestock you find out there. Photography has given me so much more of an appreciation for nature, and any chance I can get to go out and shoot beautiful people in beautiful natural places, I really enjoy. Photographing Jessica and Rawley’s engagement session at Jessica’s family ranch in Aubrey, TX and historic downtown Pilot Point was one of those opportunities. Here are some of my favorites from their session:

Lindsey and Chris’ Woodlands Engagement Session

Engagements
February 22nd, 2011

Lindsey and Chris are so cute it’s almost unnerving. The way they hold each other, the way they smile at each other, the way they make each other laugh, the way they dote on each other.. Every couple has their own unique brand of love, and with these two, it’s just a whole lot of happiness. Getting a “serious” look out of them was tough – not because they aren’t masters of being fierce, which they definitely are – but because their enthusiasm and joy is so infectious that it constantly bubbles up out of them. Just being around them made me a happier, livelier person. I can tell that these two have a lifetime of grins and laughter ahead of them, and I can’t wait to see that manifest itself in front of all their friends and family on their wedding day. Here are some of my favorites from their engagement session in The Woodlands, TX:
