There’s just something about Kelly.  Her engagements, bridals, and her wedding have all been some of my favorite shoots of all time.  It is her unique sense of style and her Martha-Stewart-esque craftiness?  Is it her uncanny ability to pick the best locations, the best props, the best outfits, and of course the best husband?  Or is it just the fact that she’s incredibly beautiful and makes my job way easy?  The world may never know.  I’ll be sharing heaps of photos of Kelly over the next few months, but today we’ll get started with her bridal session at the NYLO Hotel in Plano – hands down my favorite hotel in the Dallas area.  They have the best decor, the best food, the best service, the best rooms (and cheap, too!), and they’re really friendly and accommodating to photographers, which is a refreshing change of pace.  It’s the place I’m holding my workshop, and it’s the only place I recommend to people staying in the North Dallas area.  I can’t really recommend them enough!

Back to Kelly – she decided on the NYLO based solely on my recommendation, and I think my description of its “funky urban loft vibe” worried her  Texas-country-girl sensibilities.  It turned out to be a perfect match, because the bright orange and brown decor matched her wedding colors (orange and brown) perfectly!  Here are some of my favorite shots from her session:

Normally I live in a bubble of good-old-boy Southern weddings, my weekends filled with churches and ballrooms, sweet brides in big poofy white dresses surrounded by fluffy flowers like peonies, garden roses, and hydrangeas.  The fact that I pretty much just described my own wedding should be proof that those types of weddings are anything but boring to me, and I love the classic elegance of a traditional Southern wedding.  However, every now and then I get the chance to do something completely out of my comfort zone, and I relish those opportunities.  Ali & Rob’s wedding was one such occasion.  This wedding was Miami through and through – from the delicious Cuban rehearsal dinner (I am now completely obsessed with Cuban food, thanks entirely to Ali and Rob) to the beach ceremony to Ali’s short sassy wedding dress to the bright oranges and greens of their wedding decor.  Their family and friends were so welcoming to us, and thew showed us the same Southern hospitality we know and love, Miami style.  Here are some of my favorites from their day:

Remember the adorable couple whose engagement session I raved about just a few days ago? Well, they’re back, and their wedding has every bit as much life, energy, and happiness as their engagement session does. Everywhere these two go, they light up a room, and it doesn’t surprise me that they both surround themselves with equally friendly and likable people. I can’t help but brag about how my clients are some of the nicest, warmest, most welcoming people I’ve ever met, and Ashley and Matt are the epitome of that. It also didn’t hurt that Ashley (who worked for awhile at Anthropologie) has an amazing sense of style and incorporated her fantastic design sense into their wedding decor. With Ashley’s help, DFW Events and The Garden Gate Floral (the same team who will be working with me on my wedding!) created a fabulous combination of wooden vessels, candlelight, succulents, and burnt orange fall florals to honor Ashley and Matt’s Longhorn alma mater at the Lakewood Country Club. Ashley kept a diary during her engagement, and wrote a daily note describing the different things she loved about Matt.  What an amazing gift to give your new husband!











Matt and Ashley chose to do a First Look, and they took a moment to sit and pray together before their ceremony.  It was a really quiet and moving moment for me, and I think it was a wonderful way to start their marriage.
